Garden Waste Skip

Garden Waste Skip

Hiring a skip for your garden renovation is a great way of easily disposing of your waste without countless trips to the skip, dirtying your vehicle and taking up lots of your valuable time.

With an easy online ordering system, like we have here at Budget Skips Direct, you can order your skip, pay for it, and organise collection all from the comfort of your sofa, conserving your energy for the big garden clearance that lies ahead of you.

Below we’ll go through the different types of garden waste you may need to dispose of and discuss any limitations that may apply.

Middlesborough Skip Hire

General Garden Waste

General garden waste is classified as things like grass cuttings, leaves and hedge trimmings, plants, flowers, branches or twigs.

There are no restrictions on these items and you can hire any size skip needed to meet the requirements of your project.

Easy start!

Heavy Garden Waste

Heavy garden waste is classified as things like large amounts of soil, rubble, bricks or hardcore.

In this case, you’re only able to order a skip up to 8 yards in size, as filling a skip any larger would make it too heavy to lift and cause risk of injury to people or property when it’s being collected / transported.

It’s also important to note that when you’re getting rid of heavy garden waste, you must let it naturally sit in the skip and not attempt to further compact it so that you can fit more in. This again will cause it to become too heavy to lift. If you’ve got lots of heavy garden waste that needs removing, then we can offer a skip replacement service, where we drop a new skip off when we collect your current one, enabling you to continue your project with no interruptions.

Garage / Shed Waste

When clearing out your garden, you may also be tempted to clear out the garage or shed at the same time. Whilst this makes the job more efficient, beware that a lot of the old items that you find in your garage can’t be placed in a skip.

Items such as asbestos, chemicals, fuel tanks or canisters, fridges, freezers or white goods, batteries and plasterboard can’t be placed in our skips.

For a full list of items that can’t be placed in skips, take a look at our Skip Hire Guide.

Wood Waste

There are strict regulations on wood waste disposal and the types of wood we can accept and process. These rules were tightened further in 2023 before wood waste rules prior to 2023 being re-intoduced.

Essentially, the following wood types are classed as hazardous and cannot be placed in our skips. This generally includes:

  • Railway Sleepers
  • Telegraph Poles
  • Treated / Creosote Wood
  • Agricultural Fencing
  • Industrial Wood Types
  • Wood for Marine Use
  • Waste wood from hydraulic engineering
  • Cooling tower timbers, wood block flooring or moulds
  • Waste wood from trailer beds

When renovating kitchens, bathrooms and other internal rooms where wood can be found. Wood waste such as flooring and internal doors or staircases can be placed in our skips.

Garden fencing, Window frames, sheds, old decking wood offcuts, most domestic wood types are fine to be placed into our skips. Contact us for more information or should you have a question with regards to your wood waste.

Artificial Turf

Whilst we have no problem with natural, decomposable garden waste, unfortunately we can’t accept artificial turf in our skips. This is due to artificial turf being a mix of plastic, rubber and backing materials, which makes it very hard to separate and recycle.

If you’re wanting to get rid of old artificial turf, then it’s best to find a specialist recycling company. Or better yet, why not try and re-use the turf yourself for things like allotment paths, pet runs / kennels or children’s play areas.

If the turf is still in good condition, you may even be able to sell it on a site such as Facebook Marketplace.
